Before you begin
The login methods described in this article will require you to know your unique class code, your students’ player names and passwords (if you have enabled students' passwords in your account). If you are unsure where to find these details, we recommend reading our help articles about class codes, how to enable/edit player passwords and how to download player password cards before you proceed.
The best way to login your students is up to you!
Every school and classroom is unique. Perhaps your class share computers with other classes, or maybe each student has their own handheld device. Read on to discover different methods of logging in and decide which one is right for you and your class, or use the links below to jump straight to a login method.
If your classroom or school are sharing computers or laptops…
If your class or school shares computers or laptops and is playing through our website, you may want to try this login method.
Login to your school account on your class or school computers.
Navigate to the games dashboard by clicking the ‘Play’ tab.
3. From the games dashboard, either you or your students can select which game to play by clicking the ‘Play’ icon of the selected game.
4. Next, you can choose the group the student player is in or select ‘Practice’ to play mini games in Practice Mode.
5. Now you or your students can select their player.
6. And start playing!
When a student has finished playing, you can press your browser’s back button to return to the player selection screen. Then, the next student can choose their player and start playing without requiring any further login.
Please note: When you close the browser or restart your computer, the play session ends, and you will be required to login again. You may want to bookmark the login page on each computer and save your login details in the browser to facilitate quicker login.
If students have their own computer or laptop…
If your class are playing through our website and your students each have their own computer or laptop, then the following login method may work well for them. Watch our 1 minute tutorial video or follow the steps below.
Initially, you will need to login to your Teach Your Monster School Account.
Look for your ‘Student quick login link’, which appears at the top of your Players & Groups dashboard, and click the word ‘link’.
You will now see your Student quick login screen. Your unique class code is prepopulated for your students on this screen. If you have player passwords enabled, you will see the player name field and password field as shown below:
If you have disabled player passwords, you will only see the player name field, as shown below.
3. We recommend bookmarking this page on each of your students’ computer browsers as shown in our short tutorial video here.
Doing so will mean that whenever your students return to play on their computer, they can enter the details directly from their password card, click the ‘Play’ button and be taken straight to the games dashboard to choose a game.
If your classroom or school are sharing handheld devices…
We recommend this login method when your class or school is using the apps on shared devices. Although the following screens appear slightly different across our apps, the same basic login steps apply. Once you have logged into your account in the app, you will not need to login again unless you have manually chosen to log out via the app settings.
Open the app and tap the ‘Login’ button (if you can’t see the login button on the Teach Your Monster to Read app, you may need to tap the ‘Sign up’ button first and press ‘Get started’ to access the ‘Login’ button.)
2. When prompted, enter your date of birth into the age gate. Please note that the age gate is designed to prevent children from leaving the app; therefore, it requires an adult's date of birth, not a child's.
3. Rotate your device, and tap the ‘Teacher’ tab. Enter the email and password for your school account and press the purple ‘Login’ button, or choose to login with Apple or Google.
4. To play adventure mode, click on the big ‘Play’ button. For ‘Practice mode’, click ‘Practice’.
5. You will then see your players, or groups, if you have created any.
Please note that on the Teach Your Monster to Read and Reading for Fun apps, if you have more than eight players, you will be prompted to find your player by typing their name into the search box.
6. From here, you can have your student choose their monster and start playing.
7. When the student has finished playing, they will return to this screen.
From here, the next student can pick up the device, press the play button, and select their monster without requiring any further login.
If your students have their own handheld devices…
If your students are using the apps and have their own device, we recommend trying this login method. Although the following screens appear slightly different across our apps, the same basic login steps apply. Once you have helped your student to log into the app on their device, they will not need to login again (unless an adult has manually helped them to log out via the app settings).
3. Rotate your device and help your student to enter the class code (if you are unsure where to find your unique class code, check out our help article on class codes here), then press the purple ‘Continue’ button.
4. You will now be prompted to enter your student’s player name. If you have enabled passwords in your school account, you will be prompted to enter the student’s password too (you can learn more about password settings in our help article here.) When you have entered your student’s login details, press the purple ‘Login’ button.
5. Your student is now logged in! They will need to press the large play button and tap their monster to play.
Now they are logged into the app on their device, they will not need to login again and can either start playing the game or continue where they had left off on their device.
Can I log my students in with a different method?
We are currently investigating ways to simplify login for our students and teachers. While we can't advise if or when these features might be available, please keep an eye on our social channels and this help page for any updates.
